In Austria right now, thousands are in the streets to demonstrate against the right wing coalition that has taken over several parts of goverment.

European countries are watching closely. This may serve as a model for other nations to shift hard right. Germany and Northern European countries may be most vulnerable.

The BBC is overly optimistic. Polish “Law and Justice” party (currently ruling) is steadily dismantling all safety precautions built into the system (following Austrofascism, they started with the constituional tribunal) while moving further to the right. »

So far the government took over the Constitutional Tribunal, and produced a bunch of (unconstitional) bills that will destroy the independence of judiciary, leaving full control of the courts in the hands Minister for Justice (and Attorney General) personally. »

(This includes forced retirement of all judges of the Supreme Court.) And yes, the next thing they're starting to tinker with is the electoral law.
