It is useful in making clear though that algorithms are made by people with bias...not some pure elsewhere.... but I agree in general.
-
There's actually plenty of evidence of that in the bajillion other examples that we don't actually need to argue this position.

It's a very specific angle on this issue. Which exists not only in Apple's face ID, but is prevalent in regular photography, motion sensors etc. (Of course an individual company does not matter – but regular tech should be accessible by all.)
-
I believe tech should be more accessible to more people. And hard work is needed on systemic bias and racism. But it's also helpful to consider if the future we want has more or less facial recognition in it.

It's a SF dystopian hero trope, though. The resistance will be led by people of color and gait-shifting step-dancers

If the Black woman just strolled through all the laser security beams that'd be the start of an awesome caper film.

There is a diversity problem in Tech & this has proven to negatively influence the likelihood of bias inherent in AI, software dev, data analytics, etc.https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/mobile.nytimes.com/2016/06/26/opinion/sunday/artificial-intelligences-white-guy-problem.amp.html …
