I used to, in a previous life, invite people to our place. "Come hang out in Charlottesville sometime!" I'd say. Maybe invite them to a drive through the Brew Ridge Trail in Nelson, head out to the hills, enjoy downtown.

We've been pondering the ethics of staying. On one hand moving away seems like defeat. But staying would mean being subjected to an inhospitable environment. All of higher ed is neoliberalized, so I've been thinking deeply of Walter Rodney's "guerrilla intellectual"

The big positive to come since A11/12 has been finding real PEOPLE in this town who care about each other, justice, and liberation. It's given me encouragement and hope.
