Literally nobody in the UK knows how to deal with American dark ages credit card technology. One of them took the signature process VERY srs

"just scribble something" "I'm not committing fraud, mate." Well, good on you I guess, no one has ever looked at a CC signature in 39 years

US card tech is so outdated that we had a waitress that had never in her life seen the machine spit out a slip for signing.

Wait, does the US not have chip readers? I assumed you folks would have what we've got in Canada...

We *just* got widespread rollout of chip readers in the past year. Many places still not enabled. PIN only enabled for debit. It's bad.

!!! We've hat chips for at least a decade! Scams and fraud must be RIFE in the States if you're that far behind in the security arms race.

US CC liability laws give the bank more risk, so they do more analysis and block questionable txns more easily than EU banks.

At the same time, the banks & CC companies didn’t want to spend money to roll out chip cards & chip readers until fraud cost them too much.

And I remember how people wailed when that happened because using the chip is supposed to be so slow and cumbersome. 😑works fine in Europe.
