Literally nobody in the UK knows how to deal with American dark ages credit card technology. One of them took the signature process VERY srs

For her it was like a dark feature, like that setting in software you never use but you know someone certainly must.

Wait, does the US not have chip readers? I assumed you folks would have what we've got in Canada...
-
We *just* got widespread rollout of chip readers in the past year. Many places still not enabled. PIN only enabled for debit. It's bad.
-
!!! We've hat chips for at least a decade! Scams and fraud must be RIFE in the States if you're that far behind in the security arms race.
-
US CC liability laws give the bank more risk, so they do more analysis and block questionable txns more easily than EU banks.

IKR? After moving to Europe 3 years ago it's like leaving the dark ages.

The chip card readers in Iceland were so much faster than anything in the states. Nearly instantaneous.
-
Have noticed this as well. But I noticed the OB station kept asking for a pin for my CC. Dunno what that was about
-
All gas (petrol) stations we stopped at required a PIN.
-
Purchases over a country-specific limit require a PIN. (£20 in the U.K., 20€ in France, and I think $50 in Australia maybe?)
-
Appreciate the insight, gents, have noted this for future travel.
-
In france you always need to enter a PIN unless your card is this NFC things (valid <20€) but no swipe (even for amex).
-
reason is that if there's a fraud and didn't use a secure system, it's on their pocket, otherwise the bank.

In 1987 my Danish credit card issuer required an ID photo to be printed on the back of the card.

My boss refuses to upgrade to the chip. He got ripped off for >$10k as a crowd came into town with forged cards and hit his multiple stores
-
he still doesn’t understand how it happened and continues to think that ID/swiping/signing is the only way to do it. He’s a moron.
