I wanna talk about doxxing and what the alt-right is trying to do with Cville.

The Nazis trying to dox the left is a reaction to this. And the fact that they're memelords makes them look more sophisticated than they are

But here's the reality. Unlike the Deandre Harris case, which is overwhelmingly supported by many journalists and video and photo...

Counter-antifa efforts are largely based on one photo or a brief video clip. This isn't enough generally.

Furthermore, in VA a victim needs to step forward. That means to land charges, the Nazi being beaten has to self-dox.
Show this thread -
That may happen. And what we'll see is a fairly mundane trial if it does, because the photos show street skirmishes.

The counter-antifa movement is an attempt to frame the alleged violence as worse than it is, whereas the Nazi violence is as bad as it looks

This follows the alt-right pattern of needing to portray themselves as victims.

There is no clear case for what happened near Em Park on a12. We have ample video evidence that shows Nazis instigated.

Everything subsequent from that is a mess of who is self-defending whom.

Because even if a supposed victim *does* step forward, I guarantee there will be 400 shots of him threatening or attacking, too.

8chan's doxxing efforts are not nearly as complex as they seem. But they're dangerous because they cause *future* issues.

The "Cville antifa created an organized terroristic plot" tale is hilarious. First, Cville has no antifa-branded org that I know of.
Show this thread -
Second, you honestly think we organized to specifically target some rando? No. Cville organized to attempt to *prevent violence*.
Show this thread -
Cville BLM published a statement of nonviolence. SURJ did the same. Press conferences were held. City Council was begged.
Show this thread -
You're telling me that the people who stood before city council, broadcast their names and addresses live on tv, also coordinated terror???
Show this thread -
Jesus we'd be the shittiest terrorists ever.

Identifying someone so they are held accountable is not the same as publishing their address and phone number for the purpose of harassment.
-
I see it as a difference between trying to protect people (warn them of Nazis) vs hurt people (go after marginalized people)
-
Maybe I'm being a bit pedantic here, but I think using "doxxing" in this context is inappropriate & legitimizes harassment campaigns.
-
Well they are publishing names and addresses and plannin harassment campaigns and I have 140 characters so start your own thread.
-
Also I want you to self-reflect on the tackiness of telling someone who survived two Nazi attacks and has friends *still in the hospital*...
-
on what is and isn't appropriate.
-
"You're doing a disservice to the seriousness of harassment," they say, to the person who endured months of targeted harassment before being
-
surrounded by a mob of Nazis who used specific language from that harassment campaign, got maced, doused in fuel, and watched someone die.
