When I was a shitty, Republican (but I repeat myseld) college student I seriously considered signing up to be a B-1 bombardier.

That was 15 years ago, post axis-of-evil speech, and I knew B-1Bs would be part of any initial strike mission.

NBC rolling out "exclusive" news as if the Pentagon hasn't had and evolved these plans for decades.
-
There are three ways to use bombers against nuclear sites: - send a fuckload and hope some get through (B-52)
-
- go very fast and hope you get there before they stop you (B-1B) - go very quietly and hope they don't see you (B-2)
-
The B-2 Spirit stealth bomber may not actually be effective in this role... stealth aircraft aren't invisible to radar...
-
they just dramatically reduce the effective range of it. But NK is small, and it may be hard to deploy stealth aircraft effectively.
-
The first strike missions of the First Gulf War were helicopter strikes to open gaps in radar lines.
-
You can't do that for nuclear deterrence, though. You have to hit the nukes first.
-
Or at leasy very, very soon after. Hence, the supersonic B-1B. This, of course, is irrelevant, as NK artillery will ruin everything.
