I designed flight controllers to detect pitot static probe failure under a military contract. That tech would have saved Air France 447.

but this shouldn't be a defence of the military, why was it develop under a military and not a civilian contract?

For many reasons, the most simple being that the most advanced aerospace research labs in the world are attached to USAF or NASA.

I hope you don't think I'm trying to fight you. I know there is a complex system and history involved, I'm saying it's time this stopped.

agree that it's time this stopped but that's something to work towards and not a standard applied backwards in time

but you understand why it makes me uncomfortable to use it as a defence of trans people. It implies that it needs to continue.

I disagree with that implication. Trans people need to be afforded full rights, even fucked up problematic ones.

"Denying trans people rights" is hardly an incremental step towards dismantling the system.

I have a problem with people saying "trans people should be in the military cause look at all of the good things that have come from it"

And I do have a problem with saying that serving in the military should be a right. Just because cis people are still allowed to do it.

I'm saying, recognise it as an attack on trans rights without also defending the US military, it's not impossible.
