All record of that got expunged because we pulled the "white privilege and political connections" lever with our parents.

Thank you, too! Have you heard of Ursula Franklin's "earthworm theory" of social change? What you do loosens the earth so others may grow.

Thanks for this tweet btw. as a Quaker myself who labors for social justice that I haven't read her! Will correct that oversight now!

I'm obsessed with "The Real World of Technology" (1989) — her "technology" broadly describes any practice, from therapy to making software.
-
Some practices are "holistic", and require an intuitive give and take based on expertise and empathy. Like throwing pottery or listening.
-
Other practices are "prescriptive", and are reducible to a series of steps performed by interchangeable actors — with managers overseeing.
-
Humans have always practiced both (ex: ancient bronze casting), but in our modern era we pathologically think prescriptive is always better.

"IF ONLY we could track the granular effectiveness of therapy (maybe with a smart watch?!) then surely the results would be better for all!"
-
"IF ONLY we can track every interaction the user has with our interface, and granularly A/B test them, surely we'll change the world!"
