Guessing gender: bad Trying to proffer solidarity by reinforcing tropes used to abuse us: also bad.
-
Frankly, why is gender even asked? Inessential to the service. I mean, clearly it's for targeting, but there's no cover.
-
It's not asked. It's inferred, and they opened it up to allow self-identification
-
Oh, I know. But they let you edit, right? It just seems odd. Are they having us correct their classifiers for their ad targeting?

What about a cis man saying "I identify as male"?
-
I believe that's what trans folks want us to say, since it reinforces that folks shouldn't just assume our gender.
-
It's kinda nice to have cis folk put themselves in the "identify as" paradigm because it's usually used to problematically discuss transness
-
Cis person saying "I identify as..." is reaching out and meeting us on the shitty ground we're placed on.
-
Cis person using "itentify as" language for trans folk is keeping us locked on that shitty ground
