All those "I identify as an attack helicopter" memes are precisely to debase trans identities.

Guessing gender: bad Trying to proffer solidarity by reinforcing tropes used to abuse us: also bad.
-
Frankly, why is gender even asked? Inessential to the service. I mean, clearly it's for targeting, but there's no cover.
-
It's not asked. It's inferred, and they opened it up to allow self-identification
-
Oh, I know. But they let you edit, right? It just seems odd. Are they having us correct their classifiers for their ad targeting?

Hey, I'm really sorry. My intention was never to question, make fun of or de-legitimize trans or non binary identities. (1/?)
-
When I saw that twitter was basically putting people into male/female boxes based on their posts, I got angry and tried to make a joke. (2/)
-
But now I see that my post also had a hurtful effect and demonstrated my own privilege. I'm deleting my tweet, with sincere apologies.
-
No worries. You may not be aware of the vectors of transphobic harassment, but you're far from the only person who's posted similar things.
-
I appreciate the solidarity gesture of resisting being cast into a label, but that action is more damaging to some than to others.
-
So thank you for acknowledging that :)

Declare your gender. Male is fine. Female is fine.
