I worked at Fitbit for 4 years. People there cared a lot and thought deeply about ethics.

Not a helpful comment. Unexpected consequences of something you create is a fact. Accepting that and learning from that is key. :)

I agree that unexpected consequences need to be understood and learned from. Fitbit execs and legal team think critically about each case.

I'm sure they did. Acting legally in self-interest, even prudently, is not the same as acting ethically.
