As in right now, receiving any medical care is a privilege for me. Flu shots. Broken wrist. Cholesterol checkup.

With the DOJ not fighting for Section 1557, it means that the law is on the books but basically unenforceable.
-
The rule is being sent back to the Dept of Health and Human Services for re-interpretation. It was open for comment last year.
-
On December 31, a federal judge in Texas enjoined that rule the day before it took effect.
-
Today the DOJ said, "nop, sorry, sending it back to get re-interpreted." Like Title IX and GG v. Gloucester, this affects every case.

Here is the story about Section 1557: https://rewire.news/article/2017/05/02/breaking-trump-administration-reverses-course-obamacares-civil-rights-protections/ … Note this includes abortion coverage, too.

And here is the story about the Executive Order:http://www.politico.com/story/2017/05/02/donald-trump-religious-liberty-executive-order-237888 …

The full language of the February draft EO is here: https://www.thenation.com/article/leaked-draft-of-trumps-religious-freedom-order-reveals-sweeping-plans-to-legalize-discrimination/ …

In case your wondering, this action specifically targets two things: trans care and abortion coverage.pic.twitter.com/eDHlKOWwXa

To be clear: you absolutely have the ability to file a private lawsuit. If you can find and afford a lawyer willing to take the case.
-
And if this happens to you, please try. Because someone has to win. But friends I'm not gonna lie and say that that's a solution for us all

@lulainlife Was a stay filed today, or granted today? -
Filed, likely to be accepted because DOJ has no interest in case. In any case injunction still holds.
-
SoTitle IX is supposed to be the overarching protection against sex discrimination at this point?
-
No, it's more complicated. There are many laws/provisions that cover our various rights.
-
Title IX covers fair access to education Title VII covers employment rights and rights to benefits Section 1557 of the ACA covers healthcare
-
EO 13672 covers federal employment and employment of federal contractors (it's more explicit than Title VII)
-
-
No sense in mainstream media dwelling on the marginalization of minorities. Grrrr.
