To disclaim one's whiteness as fixed is to ignore the privilege it brings. It is to ignore what it permits one to do in the world.
It is a form of extreme defaultism, an assertion that his experience would be the same were he not white.
It is also an assertion that the ways in which he perceives his whiteness to be unfixed lies along the same axes of racial injustice.
I find writing freely in the margins with liberal use of angry faces and the word "fuckhead" helps me make it through books like these.
Just imagine leaving it in a hotel lobby or an airport and someone else coming along and reading those margines <3 <3 <3

I read this as, "I know they say lived experience matters, and there are very good reasons for this... But lived experience doesn't matter."
Starting to sound like someone wanting to tell about something they know nothing about and admittedly state it is not the same as experience
