Folks talking about conference talk rejection. Kinda want to start a discussion about job rejection but that space is mired in 💩

I wanna say something upbeat like, "you get more rejections than offers, soldier on!" but the reality is that, in tech, that's crap for many

Getting a talk rejected sucks but jobs are how we sustain. So it's a bit harder to "chin up" when you're on application number 30.

So here's a poll: how many applications did it take you to land your current job?

Aimed for one a day. Took almost 6 months. Te me, the pain wasn't the outright rejections, it was the silent treatment.

Oh my god, I've never kept track. Was looking for six months, though, and sent out probably 6-8 per week.

I was unemployed for 3 months in Summer 2011. Two recruiters plus I applied for prob 40-50 jobs. Less than 10 interviews.

Oddly enough, I found my current job in the paper, like it was 1987. (State law still requires posting its job in the paper)

My last job I got hired after...hundreds of applications. It was The Worst. Then I went self employed for a while but was poor as fuck.

Now I work for my dad's small business, which is lucky because it's the reason I still have a place to live and food.
