Few days ago, I mentioned that "live authentically" is a worn, tired phrase to describe trans experiences. Short thread on why.
-
-
No one hears "live authentically" and thinks about crying in a bathtub with a bottle of wine. Of crushing on every trans woman you meet.
-
Of seeing yourself in the mirror and feeling unbound joy. Or of seeing yourself in the mirror and falling apart to dysphoria.
-
Those are authentic trans experiences. A lot of them are also authentic experiences for cis women, too.
-
But that's never what we mean, because patriarchy doesn't allow us to publicly acknowledge the struggles of any womanhood in its true lens.
-
So "live authentically" can stop unless you're wanting to talk about the impossibility of finding seasonally-appropriate clothes in season.
