I'm gonna tell a story about health insurance and paying for a medically-necessary procedure, find the point where forgoing a phone helps!

But! The hospital works with my insurance so I only had to pay deductible and cover out-of-pocket max. So it was $2872, not $6000.
-
From that, I used a pre-funded FSA I enrolled in to cover $2400. Getting complicated now.
-
This meant that I only had to cover $15,425 for the surgeon, which hopefully should be reimbursed. But wait! I need a recovery hotel.
-
That's 11 nights at $144/night. And since the procedure was out of state, we needed to travel, so that's $490 in train tickets.
-
So all said and done, this procedure, fully covered by insurance, cost me ~$6000 cash and made me pony up another $15k.
-
And if I don't get the reimbursement for the $15k fast enough, I pay 10% penalty plus income tax on it.
-
But sure. My cell phone is the real problem. Fucking doofus.
