codes of conduct for small/medium conferences are silly every dispute is resolved on a case-by-case basis anyways
-
-
that doesn't work though
-
conferences rely on multiple other organizations to exist and those expectations do not extend to the staff, security, etc
-
the worst incident of harassment i've experienced at a conf happened at strangeloop because of this
-
ofc, but it can apply to attendees, conf (not venue) staff, volunteers, speakers.
-
the point i was making is that placing emphasis on the guidelines is foolish when it is the appeals process that has power
-
i would much rather go to a conf with no coc and an obvious means to appeal than one with a "strong" coc
-
What would that look like? I don't understand how appealing would work without a conduct policy. (ignorance here, not disbelief)
-
appealing for intervention at a conf is not a legal process, it doesn't require a textual basis, it just requires a reason
