The 11th hour ethics rules change attempt followed the pattern of HB2--cram an authoritarian measure through with no time to discuss.

It is a masked play to reinforce white supremacy. It is a backlash against the Civil Rights Act.

@EmilyGorcenski Please consider what the anti-trans bills passed in NC and pending in Virginia and Texas *do*. -
Under these laws, trans people are banned from using the restrooms in any government building. *Think about what that means*.
-
Consider trying to visit the DMV, or court. Think about how long you're generally waiting, while you're there.
-
Now imagine if you weren't allowed to use the restroom while you were there, however many hours it took. How would that work? It wouldn't.
-
In practice you just couldn't enter govt buildings. And since going to court can be non optional, maybe you'd just have to leave the state.
-
Cis people keep calling these "bathroom bills", which indicates they haven't thought out the consequences for more than ten seconds.
-
These bills block a disadvantaged group from accessing govt services, from existing in public space. *And it's the law in 1 state already*
-
As trans people we are begging the rest of you to see our *existence* is being outlawed. And the next four years, we won't be the only ones.

Exactly. Obviously, trans people and trans women of color in particular are among the most marginalized in the U.S.
-
But what this allows them to do is slowly establish each and every group they choose as inferior, one by one...
-
to slowly but surely strip away the rights of citizens from the outside in as far as allowed by the general populace.
