I find its syntax more amenable and its functional bits more natural for writing datasci code that is maintainable.

python's model means that list(thing) vs thing.tolist() is effectively arbitrary in datasci contexts. I'm looking at you, pandas.

I have gone back and forth on this so often. On the one hand, the math is easier. On the other, 90% of my job is wrangling sources

i wouldn't say the math is easier it's just that incremental work is more useful and reading other people's code is easier
