I've been thinking a lot about "fake news" and post-fact, post-expertise thinking lately, and I think it's more insidious than folks realize

But see, I'm trans. And I've been exposed to the same factless vitriol for a minute now. Anti-factual hate is part of the package.
-
And it makes me realize that post-fact thinking isn't just confirmation bias, but rather a vehicle for justifying hatred.

You can say, "oh, they just want their party to win." Trans people have no party. We have no political power. Yet look at HB2.
-
This was never "believe what you want so the other party is wrong." It's "believe what you want so you can celebrate when they die."
-
I saw this with Gamergate. And same sex marriage. And trans bathroom bills. We had no political power, they just want us erased.
-
So when you see Trump et all promoting fake stories, remember that it's not about justifying party action. It's to justify our erasure.
-
We're now in an authoritarian regime. We have to recalibrate our thinking. The old political process is no more. It's targeting, not lies.
