In 2000, I was 18, and my first vote was the Bush/Gore election. I registered in my high school cafeteria. At the polls, I was turned away.

I had, at the time, the same first/last name as my father. Something evidently fucked up at the state registrar, so I was denied my vote.

Having grown up in a patriotic family, being denied the right to vote was a huge offense, especially since it was no fault of my own.
