I want to pick up from this thread a little bit.https://twitter.com/EmilyGorcenski/status/784227203349381120 …

The politics this year have been horrible. And every other day there seems to be another trigger to step on.
-
And the people who made this list are still out there. The strength it takes to come forward in the first place... that's remarkable.
-
But that's not the strength that gets praised in our culture. We prefer inspiration porn that doesn't challenge the status quo.
-
Regardless of how this election turns out, I am terrified for whatever comes next.
-
This year, I've gotten death threats, been written up twice in UK tabloids, harassed at a conference, gaslighted out of a job, and more.
-
So god help me if in 2017 I hear even once, "you're so strong for being out and trans."
-
<3<3<3 Thank you for writing about this. The narrative of “strength” makes me want to scream.
-
It was inspired a lot by your talk, btw. Been considering submitting this to Alterconf NY

I kinda find it weird techies list their employers on personal twitter. My employer is not a strong part of my identity.
-
Yeah. At the same time, Twitter networking has been exceptionally strong, and I feel like it's a loss.
-
I also don't use Linkedin, for similar reasons.

I don’t list employers on twitter either. Too easy for someone to argue I’m speaking for them if I do. :-/

I believe that it's prudent.
