When I worked tech support I would have Alice the "receptionist" transfer to "Alex" the computer wizard so people would listen to me.

I played both receptionist and tech support because my manager figured I was an obvious receptionist fill-in on her sick days.

The longer I worked there the more receptionist duties he gave me. Eventually all I did was sort email lists in excel.

I guess the moral here is, subtle language and actions can push capable people out of your company. Be vigilant.

I was the only tech without 2 monitors. One time a sales guy quit and I took his. They moved me to a smaller desk.
