why are all thermodynamic properties single letter variables why cant engineers use their words
The reality is that it would be intractable to do that consistently. Good paper formats have nomenclature sections.

i do not see how single word variables are any more unwieldy than single letter variables, except for language independence
-
Typesetting and equation length restrictions.
-
tbh i would much rather long relations (especially in stastical mechanics) be broken up into more than one equation
-
As would I, but this is not always really feasible, and in some cases can obscure things. It's trading one abstraction for another.
-
i get this but making distinctions by font pushes the current abstraction past its usefulness
-
it works fine in pure math, the number of symbols is containable, in applied math i can't read shit without reference
-
I know this feel.

But in general engineering math tends to go way overboard with symbol soup. Often this obscures trivial math.
