These houses are architectural gems, absolutely stunning. Their slow decay is heartbreaking.pic.twitter.com/Lq7JEUDE3g

Housing prices here are so depressed that I could buy two for what we paid for our place in Charlottesville.

My best friend and I were hauled into the police station here 19 years ago. Riding our bikes on the sidewalk. Awful!pic.twitter.com/I8vrd0zR7N

Growing up, I took the size of this town green absolutely for granted. Washington's army bivouacked here.pic.twitter.com/ZRY4pkYLNv

Lots of war funding came through here. The British were probably like, "Lebanon, Connecticut? That's not even a real place" and left it be.

This retirement home is called Dartmouth Villiage, and the road Wheelock Rd, for good reason.pic.twitter.com/ocgHT9sA2Y

Eleazar Wheelock ran a school here and wanted to start a university. The town said no, so he went to New Hampshire and started Dartmouth.

My hometown told the founder of what would become an Ivy League university to take his business elsewhere. Oops.

The school he ran here? Moor's Indian Charity School. Oof. Colonial privilege and attitudes are ingrained into this region.

Anyhow, nothing ever changes here, no matter how long between visits. Time and history left these towns and cities behind.

Anyhow, casual photographic history of an overlooked corner of New England over. This place still feels like a dark secret.

That's more or less the same patch as where my mother is from (Griswold/Jewett City, in her case).
