Not really, no. Some embedded code wasn't just difficult, but impossible, to run. And *nix is generally a no-go due to usability.

There are active movements out there to develop interop data protocols for sharing data, etc. in medical devices. XP is dying out

But medical device clearances are based on using predicate devices to justify safety claims. Changing software proven to work...
