Vaguetweet re: the polarization over one of the latest trans discourse controversies. It's okay to rest in dissonance and understand that both views are a little bit right and a little bit wrong. It's okay for people to be wrong. The activist pedestal strikes again.

Looks like this went exactly where I thought it was going. Now every misstep or item said in haste is being pored over and picked apart. There are valid things to critique, sure, but we sure are fast, vicious, and unrelenting in tearing down. It's, frankly, frightening.

I find Natalie's narrative and thought process so damn relatable and that's partially what's frustrating about this. Yeah, taking on a platform and expounding on the discourse early in your transition isn't the best move, but not like I or a ton of other trans women didn't do it.

Sigh. So much to say, and yet I even fear speaking up because somebody will be ungenerous and interpret what I have to say in the worst possible way, and it'll snowball. We're policing each other on an intense level that seeds fear too often rather than raising consciousness.

Some of the worst takes, paraphrased: "she has turned right wing" "she said there are only two genders and now she's truscum" "she hates autistic people" "she is against non-binary people" etc etc etc. Sigh. Even the screenshots passed around don't actually show any of that.

A huge objective of hers from everything I've seen is to model argument, rational evaluation of points, and resting in the dissonance that conflicting ideas bring us before jumping to a quick, reductive answer. We as a mob are failing pretty hard at all of that atm.

I hope she's okay, has good supports, and continues to engage in work that she loves. I don't hope that she feels she has to hold herself back from presenting ideas or asking certain questions because she might be wrong. How any of us think that's a desirable outcome is baffling

I feel like people are being way too harsh on her. She’s just a regular person trying to figure things out like the rest of us.
