We are in a service economy. Most services can be forgone. So mass layoffs will be magnified. The auto industry is spread out, not as concentrated. Confidence in economy will be hurt, which will reduce business expansion, or lead to contraction.

It's with exported cars, and imported parts. The actual damage will probably not be as bad as the worst case scenario in the article. I view a service economy as fragile, and subject to accelerated damage. Even half that number will be a few months of job growth.
