I'm not going to quote the economists, but I'd imagine that they're factoring in things like: * Automotive parts jobs * Service industries supporting parts/vehicle manufacturers * Additional jobs in retail, services etc... with higher employment and economic demand.

That seems to be pretty much exactly what they're doing. Counting all the jobs in auto and parts manufacturing and sales, dividing by the number of cars sold, and saying that's how many jobs there are per car. Which is way wrong if they're talking exports.
