I think my biggest culture shock in moving to Berlin has been life without a car. Like, running errands to do normal shit is going to require multiple trips back and forth. And honestly I don’t know that it’ll take me any more time, but definitely more energy.

And before you say “just order online!” I’ve considered that, but since I’m a consultant and travel up to 4 days a week it’s a real pain.

When I lived in Belgium, one of those rolling carts I could easily roll a few blocks or carry on the bus was such a life saver. Didn't solve all the problems, but it made things easier generally.

It is not that different to car culture. Stores cluster around train stations and you just need to find a Bauhaus and a Mediamarkt that are not far away from each other. And they usually aren't. If a cheap kettle and hairdryer will do, you can get them at Kaufland as well.

If you'll be here for awhile, maybe consider a bag with panniers. Carrying everything on your back for long enough starts to add up. I also remove packaging at the store to cut down on bulkiness. Good luck regardless!

Sorry, a bike* with panniers. If you're comfortable cycling
