My take on John McCain is this: we should absolutely be willing to point out his role in damaging many, many lives. He was a public figure. We should also be using this as a chance to educate on the pervasive apologetics of imperialism.

That flattening of history in exchange for a clean narrative was happening while he was alive, it didn’t even require his death. His brand was his service & trading access to himself to control the angle, the press would have to implicate themselves in order to be honest.
