What I mean by this latter bit is to call attention to how and why so many people reflexively worship the militaristic elements of American culture, not just with respect to McCain, but in all ways.

I think back to who I used to be, and how it took me a long, long time to contextualize that there was evil in the things I thought were good. That evil demands that it be allowed to dictate the terms of how you address that evil.

Basically my point is that it’s one thing to call out McCain, but it’s also worth talking about why we have a culture that demands reflexive elision of his deeds, and how that interacts with imperialism overall

I don’t care if people do or don’t criticize him. I am interested and concerned with how the whitewashing of history starts so quickly

today is not the day for your tweet

It absolutely is. This is like saying we shouldn’t “politicize” gun control after a mass shooting. McCain was responsible for more deaths than mass shootings over the course of American history combined. The narrative of him as a dignified man must be countered immediately.

Well I agree with what you said I think you also have to mention the fact and he didn't go home when he could have earlier than everyone else as a prisoner of war. You can argue the fact that we shouldn't have been there, but we were and he stayed until everyone got to go home.

we shouldn't have been there and he killed a lot of people there

You are so stupid it’s funny, please tell me do you criticize the last administration the same way? Probably not bias at its finest. Look at Obama’s Syria and get back to me

No bias here, it makes sense to bash Obama as he was a potus, McCain having one vote was never that powerful nor was in charge to receive backlash like this lmao lame argument

Just because he is well liked in his district and sits on committees which in itself means he can’t run them by himself because it’s a committee lmao. Are you for real?

If you can’t see that a senator was elected for decades because his delegates elected him for his district obviously they like how they were represented, far off of what you are crying. If you honestly think a senator is that powerful you’re the one who needs to see

As far as I'm concerned, it is a very interesting and legitimate discussion to have but I will simply not partake in that narrative today. Good luck with your debate though.
