I agree with you on all fronts, except for one thing: new tech is being developed every day, and new people are entering the field all the time. I think it’s still important to talk about how to build ethically.
Of course, and this is not to say we shouldn’t be developing ethics codes, but they are no longer sufficient, and the problem is deep seated and those in leadership positions need to be accountable, otherwise all the lessons directed at newcomers will be for naught
It's taken other engineering professions piles of deaths to come up with things like the ASME boiler code or PE certification. It's unfortunate that we're all going to die in civil unrest and ww3 before we get the equivalent for software engineering
Side note: it's extra bad bc here in Germany technical and ethical/moral understanding are a bit behind the times alongside a lot of other problems working together to make things worse
