never. doing that's pretty dumb. other than maybe a self-defense pistol, you should store your firearms in a locker of some sort (gunsafes, locking display cabinets, etc) with the barrel facing away from people

What if you are carrying or transporting? You have no mind for convenience. Say I’m Israeli carrying on a trail. Should I leave the dust cover and bolt open so that dust and mud can get in the chamber? Absolutely ridiculous
