Chesny has 6 kids. That helped me confirm his ID as someone who promoted violence and directly sought the legality of running down protesters. His kids will have a good life. Heather Heyer’s ended at 32.

I wish this surprised me more than it does, but under G.W.Bush, military lowered standards & started accepting recruits who had been part of white supremacist groups, as well as former gang members.
-
Brass in our area expressed concerns, as did others in the Pentagon, but it was done to get more boots on the ground In the Middle East. Now we're paying the price.
-
I wish that were the case, but I was in the Army from 94 to 98 and we had a problem with neo-Nazis at Ft Bragg then. At least, according to Stars and Stripes when I was in.
-
Wow, so when I was reading about the standards being loosened because they weren't getting the recruitment numbers, the problem was already well entrenched then? From the first Gulf War, or do you feel it's a problem we've never rooted out in the first place?
-
It may have gotten worse under Dubya, but it's been there longer.

Most of the people in my life who served in the military, including family, doctors, teachers, were so inclusive & civic-minded. This is the exact opposite. When our nation's defenders are racist, just who are they defending?
-
It was not a majority of people then. Trust me on that. They were small groups that hid themselves.

I've visited Camp Pendleton several times. I recall it being a fairly diverse group (to me at least). How can you be a Neo-Nazi when you're in such a racial melting pot? How do your biases not get exposed continually? How did others not notice?
-
Public decorum. It's amazing how nice and nonconfrontational people will be in public. Behind closed doors...
