I hadn’t expected a counter-protest. I didn’t know the students would be there. There were a small handful of local activists, but most were in a nearby church. I figured it would be 50 Nazis and some ugly, violent speeches.

Today my friends and peers and comrades march against all forms of white supremacy, which included the police. I love them, and I wish I could be there with them. But a dear friend reminded me that this fight is long, and I can do my best work by staying alive and not giving up.

I remain extremely angry at the University and their police for the failure to react more proactively that evening. Oddly, they certainly seem a lot more engaged in protecting the Grounds this evening from those protesting their failure to act last year.
