I have a brand new, clean install work computer. I resolve not to fuck up my system python. Let’s see how long that lasts.

I'm sure a thousand people have volunteered to help with this, but let me add myself to the list. I've done similar things with a variety of languages.

Docker is a really good way to wrangle Python and other things that don't play nice.

I only started liking coding in Python once I got conda/miniconda. Docker seemed a little overkill for me but YMMV.

IMO pipenv has mostly made this unnecessary, but of course Apple ships an ancient version of pip by default so there’s the question of how to get one on there w/o touching the system modules... (I mostly grimace, type “sudo pip install -U pip” and then try to forget I did that)

http://repo2docker.readthedocs.io/ might help make it easier to use Docker, tries to determine from your repository contents what should be installed in the container so you don't have to write Dockerfiles by hand. Also powers http://mybinder.org
