I'm declining most of the media requests for Charlottesville stuff that I'm receiving and I'm still too damn saturated.

As we move closer to the one-year anniversary, I am going to be stepping back from the event to focus more on my life in Berlin, my career, and my family.

The story of Charlottesville is so much more than just August 12. The work being done there is more than fighting Nazis. The story is so much more than what's being told. And others need to be the ones to tell it.

I didn't build my platform based on fighting Nazis. I built it by working on activism in the tech industry, the impact of in-the-weeds technical decision-making on policy (and vice-versa), and racism/sexism in the workplace. Those are fights that matter still.

Knowing when to step back is a part of activism. It's probably been past my time. So I'm stepping back a bit. I'm still going to be doing the work, just less public-facing stuff.

Most of my work has already been behind-the-scenes for months, but with the anniversary coming up you're going to be seeing me in a few places. Stuff that I've written, filmed, etc. over the past several months.

A thing I'm proud of is that when you google my name in incognito mode, several of the top results point to my technical work. I want more of that. I have the entire rest of my life to tell the story about Charlottesville.

In the meanwhile, I have made it a goal recently to amplify
@ZyahnaB. She is young, Black, and unstoppable. In her I see the passion, talent, and charge of people like@Blackamazon,@BlairImani, and@ztsamudzi. I recommend you all follow her.4 replies 12 retweets 29 likesShow this thread
I am mixed-race, female, and transgender. All of those things are axes of marginalization. But I am not Black, and we constantly risk erasing Blackness from these stories. I want to make sure I'm not complicit in that.

I also want to make sure the breadth of Nazi violence is captured, particularly against the trans community, and I think I have done so adequately. There is plenty more trans activism yet to be done, and it can be done in a context past Unite the Right.
