Did they remove the engine and add trunk compartment? I imagine the back is holding the propeller engine. Also, this thing must have used a lot of fuel.

Probably it's just a conversation of a regular car, so to spare time and work from removing them they're left there But more probably, it's just looking more stylish this way so they left it.
