Municipalities in Canada are not constitutionally ordained. They don't have charters and are frequently described as being entirely "creatures of the provinces." Doug Ford's conservatives have a parliamentary majority and can in theory do what they want. It's the fucking WORST.

The rest of the province and the rest of the country tends to hate Toronto. The provincial conservative party sure does, since we tend to vote Liberal or NDP. And Doug Ford thinks he knows better and is punishing the city for not electing him mayor four years ago.

A coalition of conservative extremists pushed Ford, largely seen as a joke candidate, into the Progressive Conservative Party's top spot. And then a coalition of white supremacist media flooded our old and new media landscape with propaganda. May have been irregularities, too.
