Short version: the study that claimed that 80% of trans kids would "desist" in their transness if pushed hard never to mention it was an unethical sham.https://thinkprogress.org/scholars-dismantle-the-myth-policing-trans-kids-genders-55f78df59c50/ …

The numbers would suggest a significant fraction of children actively seek transition and then stop; it's a great filter theory that doesn't match anyone's actual real world experience.
-
Seriously. I've never seen anyone honest-to-god stop being trans, any more than I've seen someone stop being tall.

The logic of "if we pressure the kid not to talk about it, it'll go away" - can you imagine if people applied this to other medical conditions? "You DO NOT have measles, little Jimmy, and don't you DARE talk that way!"
-
In any other clinical setting, "patient presented with symptoms, after no treatment and extended interaction with clinician, patient withdrew" happening at 90% would lead to a board review of that clinician.
