The weird thing is the American people can end this nightmare whenever they want with a general strike.

Collective action problems are tough. Also, a substantial number of people aren't suffering a nightmare; that's the function of hierarchical privilege. Still more have convinced themselves they aren't; lowered expectations. Yet more are confused about the nature of the problem.

This is why Marx is so important; not because he showed us the way forward, but because he accurately described the way things are.

By keeping a large percentage of the working class living hand-to-mouth, they eliminate our ability to exercise this exact sort of protest. This is absolutely by design.

I love the theory but there's no way it will happen. Americans fear their employers too much, and employers have too much power. Trump's crew would round up agitators for a general strike and charge them with treason. And SCOTUS would probably uphold any guilty verdict.

Yeo. Shit these feigned protests are profitable as hell to all the fast food joints enslaving minmum wage workers. Turn off the media for a month. Only buy fresh farmers market foid for a month. No Walmart, no Amazon. This will be over before the end of the month. Make #JulyFree

A general strike would only be as effective as the ideology and methodology behind it. Without class consciousness, without a coherent vision of permanently changing the power dynamic, without a commitment to combating the inevitable backlash, all gains would be short term. https://twitter.com/EmilyGorcenski/status/1012944432239468544 …

The weird thing is that the number of Americans who would actually welcome and participate in a general strike is not nearly enough of them for it to be an effective one. Which ought to damn them all each and every one.
