I am less troubled by people we know to be terrible doing terrible things. I am far more troubled by the glee experienced by a large chunk of the population when those terrible things are done.

The administration can crumble; those people are still there. They are still America. The people that mock and cheer the suffering of the other. The people that beg for genocide to happen.

No, I'm saying rallies and protests are a signal, they are meant to be heard and to mean something, that was about signalling a return of the social acceptance of bigotry and it was overwhelmingly and beautifully rejected

I think we need a fair measure of the size that chunk though, it's an abstract whose number benefits both sides of the political conversation when it's inflated

Most folks just follow the dominant narrative. Today that narrative is told by Fox News. Those same folks would have cheered the defeat of fascism in WWII, but only incidentally. They'll incidentally be on the right side of history again only when our side tells a better story.
