Blue Wave Democrats better have a coping strategy for November because a nation whose government is building concentration camps and trafficking children is not a nation with fair elections.

Roughly 50% of people see this tweet as "we need to do more than just stick with the same platform and hope for turnout," and the other ~50% see this as "don't vote at all." This is fascinating projection.https://twitter.com/EmilyGorcenski/status/1010743761448718336 …

This tiny thread says one actual thing: that the electoral process is corrupt, and therefore voting is insufficient. Insufficient doesn't mean unnecessary.

So volunteer to register people to vote and maybe rent some vans on Election Day and drive people to the polls. Y’know, fucking do something.
-
Curious what you've been up to, Skeletor, that stacks up against the astounding amount of work Emily's done in the past two years. How many neo-nazis have you helped prosecute?
-
I’m not an attorney. I’ve opened my checkbook, attended some marches, & registered voters. I’ll take the LSAT though, since that’s apparently the litmus test to gain the moral high ground of telling people trying to stop this runaway train that they’re pissing in the goddamn wind
-
Also not an attorney, mate.
-
Nor am I a data scientist. But that’s not the point. You want my thanks for what you’ve done? You have it. You want my sympathies? You have them. You wanna continue to help? Please help. You wanna tell the millions trying to fix this that they’re pissing in the wind? Hell no.
-
Perhaps I am trying to point their dicks downwind
-
No, you’re saying what most people already know. Especially people of color, voter suppression has been their reality for centuries. Believing in the inevitability of a Blue Wave and reinforcing that narrative is not helpful. Telling people it’s hopeless is also not helpful.
-
Judging from my mentions, man, most people don't know it. I never said it was hopeless. I said voting wasn't sufficient.

Yes. Do... do you think liberals don't know this?
-
They really, really do not.
-
A blue wave is our best chance. That doesn't make organizers uninformed. It means we are digging in and doing the work. And the coping strategy is to keep at it.

It's already happened. They remove people with similar names (which minorities have, disproportionately). They don't even check social security numbers. One misstep, and they remove you without even telling you. If your name sounds ethnic, they're gonna try and stop you.
-
It can't be stressed enough, this is their tactic, the GOP has been at it for years.
-
I wonder if most of those nonvoters are just unenthused with the choices they're offered, or if most have been disenfranchised
-
Stuart - I live in Los Angeles, CA. The better, better part and chat up random everyday people all the time. MANY use the terms “I don’t follow” or “I’m not into politics.” They feel as if changes in government, policy, and laws just don’t affect them. Simply unconcerned.
-
I don't think they believe things can ever change. We're not allowed to consider radical change (unless it's far right, and that's why we are in this current predicament).

And every day they stay in power, the less democratic US elections become. The only way out is with feet in the streets. Persistent non-violent disruptive civil disobedience, targeted at the centers of commerce and industry, maintained until the government falls.
#GeneralStrike -
Has to be economic or of similar consequence to the WH/GOP. An administration that puts babies in cages isn't going to be moved by peaceful demonstrations. And even peaceful protests will likely turn violent with counter protests. It's going to get ugly.
-
Non-violent protest does not imply non-violent cops, unfortunately. But it can be done. It has been done.https://youtu.be/dZDvjqOxqXg
