You remember after 9/11, all those "see something, say something" ads? (Which are bullshit, btw). Imagine seeing someone set a bomb in a train station, alerting authorities, who confirm it's a bomb, but do nothing, and the arrest you for trying to help someone after it goes off.

It's a harsh reality but I have always been in the camp that thought the city was just as much to blame for the blood spilled and the life lost on that day.

Not going to lie, I think there are a lot of positives to the left pushing the alt right out of Charlottesville and not depending on the cops for that - Charlottesville was able to largely end the right's brief period of being able to hold public space...

That's what they always do - I'm not sure what that has to do with defending public spaces against the alt right's attempts to control them...

My point is that marginalized people are once again paying the price of fighting white supremacy.

I wish that wasn't required but how else would it work? I don't know of a single time in human history where struggles to change social power dynamics haven't resulted in violence and repression... And change that didn't involve those affected would probably be pretty shitty..

I think we're on parallel tracks. I acknowledge it has been that way in the past. I'm still enraged that it continues to happen. I am glad the Nazis and WS were pushed out on A12. I wish it hadn't been necessary and I am pissed that those in power continue to punish people for it

as a journalist who was there, the police did nothing that day while we were getting pepper sprayed and urine bombed. I'm from NYC never seen anything like that before
