There's an entire world full of engineers and programmers who you'll never see at your JavaScript meetings and never engage with the web-space tech industry and are experts in taking defense dollars.

I worked for a defense contractor as recently as 2 years ago. One of the proposals we sent out was to develop a Java Applet. AN APPLET.

The point of this is that the only option is to never approach this space. Once the Pentagon knows they want something, they go for it. There is an entire industry of weapons developers and they're not going to unionize or organize out of a sense of ethics.

You’re not wrong, but I still think the employee protests were inarguably a good thing. Yes this project will still happen and might cost more taxpayer money in the short term, but we don’t have any hope of ever abolishing these programs unless people start speaking up.

You're forgetting that time is a key factor. Google is the only company w/the capability to build this incredibly destructive surveillance system right now. Even if it does get done later by another amoral company--and that is NOT inevitable--it will mean thousands of lives saved
