Google pulling out of a space it's already started in doesn't do anythinf but make the next vendor even richer. When the Pentagon has heart-feels for, say, a $100million project, those feels don't go away when it becomes a $250million project.

This is a shitty situation for the engineer: either you can choose to be complicit, or you can watch even more taxpayer money be sunk into the thing, and even more defense contractors get even richer.

Defense contracting is full of inertia. I've worked on projects that were dead by the time the ink was dry on the contract. We still did the work and they still sent the money.
