    If you don’t want Nazis on your platform, don’t make a bunch of easily bypassable rules about what Nazis can and cannot say. Instead, ban the Nazis because they are Nazis regardless of what they say.

    You cannot content moderate a platform into being a safe and thriving community space if you treat content moderation as a bunch of individual, atomic decisions. Instead you have to pick values, set policies based on those values, and then ban people who suck.

    Secondly, it makes the same mistake everyone else makes by thinking that speech issues are fundamentally a complication for content moderation. But content moderation isn’t the solution that fixes the problem we’re in.

    First, no discussion of free speech in this context makes any sense without an acknowledgment of the material conditions in the world. Trans people are having their rights rolled back. Cis people are not and never have. Repeat ad infinitum.

    Extremely facile thread that misunderstands the fundamentals of the culture war it is attempting to address while both-sidesing the issue.

    I've now been asked multiple times for my take on Elon's offer for Twitter. So fine, this is what I think about that. I will assume the takeover succeeds, and he takes Twitter private. (I have little knowledge/insight into how actual takeover battles work or play out) (long 🧵)
