(Thread) One of the most eye-opening aspects I’ve taken in since starting in minor league baseball is how completely difficult it is to not only stick in the game, but also to keep climbing. In answer to the perspective of, “It’s just a game”, chew on this a minute:

Within the over 150 minor league teams, an estimated one in 33 minor leaguers will ever debut in MLB. If that's correct, the chance of a high school player making it to MLB is one in 6,600, or 0.015%. ...Or, roughly the chance of a thief guessing your PIN # on the first try.

Add the mental fatigue of below-minimum wage pay and boom. You have phase one of a professional sport played by professional athletes. Something to remember the next time you get an urge to tweet a minor league player about how he needs to suck it up and be better.

@baseballcrank and I have all these guys in my database - abt 14,700 high school teams, around 300,000 players. 1600 or so college teams (1200 4yr) with 50,000 players. Then each year MLB drafts 1200 (40 for each of 30 teams) Maybe 2 or 3 per team will pan out to be a MLB playerThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
